Alberta Ferretti is known for her ethereal evening wear, and the designer's visionary aesthetic has translated beautifully into her bridal collection, which launched in 2013. The latest line, Alberta Ferretti Forever, features 15 looks inspired by grace and strength, in beautiful fabrics from Mikado to chiffon to satin crepe with Chantilly lace and organza floral appliqués. We caught up with the Italian designer to hear about her recent launch, her perspective on bridal style, and her favorite bride of all time.

Launching a bridal collection was a natural fit for the designer.
"Many of my clients knew me as a designer for evening wear," explained the Italian designer, who has become an international go-to for her refined romantic aesthetic. "They were the ones who convinced me to create something special other than dresses for red-carpet events. They encouraged me to design dresses for the most special day in a woman's life." The designer explained her unique perspective on designing for brides. "The latest collection is inspired by goddesses — I imagined my brides as goddesses, representing love and beauty, as well as strength, wisdom, intelligence, and victory."

Ferretti's bridal collection is available made-to-measure, allowing brides to participate in the experience of creating a dream wedding dress.
From religious requirements to achieving the perfect fit, for Alberta Ferretti, designing a bridal is a league of its own. We asked the designer about the differences she experiences when designing her bridal collection, and she explained the unique focus that she applies to her bridal gowns. "When designing for red carpet events, I usually take into consideration the body and how to enhance it. However, when it comes to designing for weddings, there are many other factors that are considered, such as the wedding location, the time of day, the country of choice, and even the religious ceremonial rights of the wedding." In addition to cultural requirements and personal preferences, the importance of fit is paramount, and the designer believes that the dress should always play up the best features of a bride. "To add to that, the woman's femininity still has to be a focal point in designing the dress, and she must look luminous and radiant in her dress."

She embraces the white dress, even if you've been married before.
"My favorite bride of all time is Queen Victoria, because she inaugurated the white wedding dress. I like to think of white for weddings, even if it's not the bride's first marriage, as it suggests the beginning of a new chapter." We asked the designer about her bridal aesthetic, and she explained, "I love white, long gowns and long skirts with tops. I love all things light, chic, and timeless. These are the characteristics of the Alberta Ferretti style and aesthetic. The embroideries I use on our bridal gowns are usually the same tone as the fabric, often white or another light, luminous color."

Her top styling tip for brides? Always keep the wedding location in mind.
The designer isn't a fan of one-size-fits-all styling tips, but notes the importance of tailoring your wedding-day look to the location and season. "It all depends on the location and timing of the wedding, but for an outdoor or countryside wedding, I love the look of hair down with a small crown of little roses, no veil, and a low mule or slipper. For a wedding at a country club or a resort, I like an updo with a small, shoulder length veil and a high-heeled pump. For brides marrying in a city, I think a beautiful, long veil is important, paired with beachy waves or a slightly messy updo with a jeweled hair accessory. A closed toe shoe with an elegant heel always works beautifully for a city wedding."
