After a little more than a year of dating, things between Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen are getting pretty serious. But despite their love, Silverman insists she's not getting married — yet. Why? She doesn't think it's fair to say "I do" when many people who want to can't yet.
Today the comedian made her first-ever appearance on The Ellen Show, and Ellen couldn't help but gush about all of the good Silverman does for the world. This included, of course, waiting until gay marriage is legalized before she too walks down the aisle.
"Who would? That said I love when my friends get married and I'm so happy for them," she told DeGeneres about her reasoning. "But I just don't understand the instinct to want to join a club that is elitist. I mean it's like joining a country club that doesn't allow Jews or black people. What's the difference?"
Following her statement, DeGeneres thanked Silverman on behalf of "all gays" and told her her stance was "admirable."
The comedian isn't the first to take this stance — Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard famously waited to get hitched until gay marriage was legalized in California and Lena Dunham is holding off her engagement for the same reason.
That said, she is enjoying their relationship — for the most part. "We like almost none of the same things," Silverman joked about her boyfriend and Masters of Sex star. "I mean we're like-minded in I think the most important ways, but he like loves magic and loves going to pirate adventure," she in a condescending tone. "He likes going to pirate adventure and things like that that I would rather be home and watching Law and Order," she elaborated, making it known that she doesn't enjoy those hobbies.
Regardless, it seems like they're happy. We can't help but admire your stance either, Sarah!
