WATCH: Jennifer Hudson's "I Still Love You" Video Stands Up for Marriage Equality

Celebrity, Gay Marriage

Grab your tissue boxes, ladies, this one's a tear jerker! Jennifer Hudson's latest music video for her single "I Still Love You" focuses on a gay wedding, and one of the groom's estranged relationship with his father. The political message is pretty clear throughout: love is love.

This especially hits home not only because of the pending Supreme Court ruling later this month, but because Hudson herself is a huge supporter of marriage equality, working with W hotels on the Turn It Up for Change campaign.

The video opens with a man leaving a message for his father to check if he's gotten the invite to his wedding. "Hey dad, are you there?" the man starts on the phone. "I know it's been a long time. I wanted to call and see if you got my invite. It would mean everything if you could be there, and despite everything, I still love you."

Then, Hudson's gorgeous voice and uplifting melody cuts in to sing 'Cause I still love you / Please come back to me / I still love you / He's everything I need / I still love you / You make my life complete / I still love you."

After the message, the father is shown listening and jumping in his truck to head to the wedding. The celebratory ceremony is capped off with the dad running up the aisle as the two new husbands recede down the aisle and hugging them both.

"I just think the concept was just powerful to go with such a positive song," Hudson tells MTV. "It's about love and everyone should have love and have the right to love who they want to love. So I thought it would be powerful to take a concept like trying to find your equality in love no matter who you love."

"I hope people walk away with a broader perspective of marriage equality," she continues of the video's message. "And everyone being able to choose who they want to love and just accept each other as their own and just give love and receive love, just love and be happy people."

Amen to that!
