After meeting online in March 2010, and getting engaged on a Friday afternoon in October 2012, Jamie Nester and John Finley took a good two years to plan their dream fall wedding. "We were able to take our time with decisions," says Jamie. "It was really fun working together to make something we felt was natural, intimate, and romantic at the same time."
And their wedding was just that. Keep reading to see photos of their laid-back party (guests dined on pizza and ice cream cake!) at Brooklyn's Greenpoint Loft on November 8, 2014, as photographed by Amber Gress.
Jamie made dress-shopping a family adventure. With her mom, dad, and sister in tow, she found a champagne-colored lace gown by Danielle Caprese but wasn't positive it was The One. "My parents had to convince me that the style looked best," she says. "I wasn't sure up to the day itself!"
But, of course, she rocked the strapless dress, accessorizing it with champagne teardrop gems from Etsy and gold-and-crystal heels she scored at a vintage shop in Carroll Gardens.
The bride carried a bouquet of red and white dahlias, deep red peonies, red ranunculus, and ferns tired together with a gold silk ribbon.
Jamie and John, clad in a bespoke midnight blue suit by Sebastien Grey, took candid photos in the streets before posing for a few quirky shots with gold star-shaped confetti.
For the ceremony, the couple chose Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where the bride regularly attends service, in Brooklyn. "It's an old, Byzantine-style church with lots of beautiful icons and gold leaf details," says Jaimie. "We knew it would be a special place for the ceremony."
After the traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony, the couple invited 100 guests to Greenpoint Loft, a raw urban space along the East River, for an evening of celebration. Once inside, guests found their seats on escort cards pinned to gold streamers.
The couple filled the industrial space with tables covered with white linens, greenery garlands with red dahlias, and gold table numbers. At dinner, guests enjoyed salad and slices from Roberta's Pizza in Bushwick.
Jamie and John asked Ample Hills Creamery to make a cake with a few of their fave ice cream flavors, which they topped off with a "Just Married!" sign.
The newlyweds danced to Sam Cooke's "That's Where It's At" for their first dance before swinging to James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes" and Eddie Vedder's "Forever Young" with their parents.
Looking back on her big day in Brooklyn, Jamie has this advice for future brides like you: "Remember to relax! I took a yoga class and had coffee with my best friend the morning of the wedding and I'm so glad I did."
