An All-White Wedding on the New Hampshire Coast

Real Weddings

In June 2005, Wesley Collins asked Alison Moodie to be his girlfriend seven times before she finally said "yes" on his eighth try. "We went on adventures on the beach, explored forts in Maine, and even climbed the highest hill at Odiorne Point State Park that summer but I didn't realize my feelings for him," Alison remembers. "It definitely wasn't love at first sight!" But it was something. Fast forward eight years to November 9, 2013, when Wesley took Alison to an apple orchard in their hometown before asking her to be his wife on a nearby beach. This time, she said "yes" right away.

The couple returned to Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, New Hampshire for an outdoor ceremony and reception on the water on September 6, 2014. Check out Kate Rose Photography's pictures below to see how they transformed the state park for their glam I dos.

The couple kept their invitations simple with a black block type on white paper. "I knew from the start that I wanted everything white," the bride says.

When it came to finding the dress, Alison knew what she wanted — no bling, no lace, and no major details — but it took trying on close to 50 to find the one. Finally, while bridesmaid dress shopping with her girls, she spotted a strapless satin La Sposa gown. "I wasn't even looking and I think that's why it was such a great experience," she says. "I let the pressure go and had a great time!"

Alison, a fashion blogger, paired her simple gown with her grandmother's vintage bracelet, drop diamond earrings, a long white veil, and jeweled Badgley Mischka heels.

The bride carried an all-white bouquet of roses, calla lilies, and gardenia (her grandmother's favorite flower!).

Alison's bridesmaids looks stunning — and, most importantly, comfortable — in light chiffon dresses from The Dessy Group. "We knew it might be hot but had no idea just how hot," laughs the bride. "It ended up being 90 degrees and humid!"

In an intimate ceremony overlooking the ocean, the couple exchanged vows they'd written themselves under a white pergola built by the groom's father.

While the skies cleared for a sunny ceremony, thunderstorms rolled in while the couple took portraits. "We were on the hiking trails around the site and got some really great photos," says the bride.

For the reception, Alison again went with an all-white theme. She dressed up the tent with drapes, crystal chandeliers, and tables topped with votive candles and square arrangements of white roses, calla lilies, and hydrangeas.

After the newlyweds danced to Ingrid Morrison's "Can't Help Falling in Love," they invited their grandparents to the dance floor. "My 92-year-old Papa sang the words to Louis Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World' in my ear the whole time," Alison says. "There wasn't a dry eye in the place."

After a seated dinner of filet mignon, asparagus and potatoes, Alison and Welsey cut into a vanilla cake, which was decorated with sugar flowers and a big "C" for their last initial.

To end the night, the couple surprised guests with a sausage and pretzel truck (a special request from the groom!) before making a sparkler-filled grand exit. After a mini-moon at The Breakwater Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine and a honeymoon in Paris and London, Alison has some been-there-done-that advice for brides-to-be. She says, "I can't tell you how many things went wrong at my wedding, but you have two choices: get mad or just accept what it is and realize that you are marrying the man of your dreams with all your favorite people and enjoy it!"
