On a snowy November night in 2008, Lauren Post, a professional ballet dancer with American Ballet Theatre, and John Resner, a film editor, both had the same idea: to head to Brooklyn for a night of bowling. But they weren't the only ones, and a crowded bowling alley meant Lauren and John's groups had to share a lane. "One of John's friends started talking to me, but it wasn't long before John swooped in and took over the conversation with his easy charm," remembers Lauren. John put that charm to good use, sending Lauren a Facebook message the next day that read, "You're a vision in bowling shoes."

Five years later, on a trip to Scandinavia, John proposed over Swedish meatballs and beers in Stockholm. "He'd had the ring in his pocket for three days, and was worried that he'd never find a 'perfect' moment, so he finally just went for it!" says Lauren. On January 1st, 2015, the pair tied the knot at Aria in Minneapolis, MN. The theme was cozy and wintery, with lots of candles and cultural touches making it really personal. Lauren put her faith in a seamstress when she purchased her vintage beaded dress. "When I bought it, the sleeves weren't connected to the bodice, and had a poufy '80s style, and the dress was 3 inches too short," she says. Thankfully, the bride ended up with the sleeves and cut-out back she'd dreamed of. "I figured I could always sell it on eBay and buy another dress if it didn't turn out right, but it was perfect," Lauren says.

The bridesmaids wore a warm burgundy hue and carried scarlet blooms to complement Lauren's white bouquet. Lauren's sister, Mallory, did Lauren's hair as the girls blasted Taylor Swift's album 1989.

The bride made flower crowns for herself and her flower girls, who wore faux-fur sweaters to warm up their lace dresses. "Our dog, Pickles, went down the aisle with them, but wasn't so enthusiastic, so the girls ended up just dragging Pickles the whole way!" laughs Lauren.

The couple warmed up Aria's exposed brick with strings of café lights. Each guest's place featured a bottle of bourbon and a Swedish dalahorse ornament, made by John's mother.

Instead of flowers, centerpieces featured pieces of wood, pinecones, ferns, and cotton that had been picked by Lauren's grandparents in Mississippi. "Our families were amazing, and helped us with a lot of the décor," says the bride.

Aria's marquee letters, reading "The World is Yours," shine a colorful light on the dance floor. Lauren and John danced to "Try Me" by James Brown and "Weak" by SWV before doing a combined father-daughter and mother-son dance to "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra.

The simple buttercream cake, decorated with rosemary and sugared berries, was made by a friend of the family.

John and Lauren escaped the Minnesota winter for a honeymoon in Belize. Says Lauren, "Remain calm! There are so many details that go into a wedding, but none of them really matter. It's about you and the love you share."
