Makeup Tips To Brighten Eyes

No matter how many margaritas you downed at the rehearsal dinner, you can still look bright-eyed and beautiful on your wedding day. Celebrity makeup artist Troy Surratt tells you how.

1. Get the red out
Psst! Here's a makeup artist secret: They love starting off with Rohto Cooling Eye Drops ($7, available at drugstore.com), which make the whites of the eyes look clear and gleaming, in seconds. Use them just before you start apply your eye makeup.

2. Illuminate with concealer
Dab a radiance-boosting concealer under the eyes and in the inner corners to cover up dark shadows. Surratt's favorite? Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat ($42, available at Sephora). "It's the perfect brightener, and it photographs beautifully," he says.

3. Use peach eyeliner on the waterlines
Tracing the inner rims of the eyes with a peachy liner, such as Three Custom Color Specialists Clarifier pencil ($18, available at Three Custom Color ), will disguise redness, and make your eyes look bigger and brighten, says Surratt.

4. Keep eye shadow minimal
Surratt suggests sticking to one or two light colors. Two always-pretty options: shimmery pinky-gold and champagne. "They reflect light and give sparkle and vitality to the eyes," he says. Try Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Rose Gold and Champagne ($24, available at Bobbi Brown).

5. Go beyond basic-black eyeliner
Sure it's great for every day, but for the big day, it can often look too harsh. Taupe or medium brown liners will define the eye, but give a softer effect. Try Trish McEvoy Classic Eye Pencil in Brown ($24, available at Trish McEvoy).

6. Curl your lashes
"Flipping the lashes up allows more light onto the eyes, so the eye itself looks larger and brighter," says Surratt, who recommends giving lashes a squeeze for a few seconds with a good lash curler. We love the Surratt Relevée Lash Curler ($30, available at Barneys) before applying mascara.
