How to Save Money on Your Centerpieces

Every bride wants to have gorgeous centerpieces (think of the photos!) but of all the line items on the wedding budget, flowers can often feel like one of the more difficult things to justify splurging on. Luckily, you don't have to break the bank to get centerpieces that are gorgeous and worthy of your Instagram hashtag. Below, wedding planner and designer Melina Schwabinger of DM Events shares three easy-yet-smart ways you can cut your centerpiece costs without looking like you skimped.

1. Keep your vases simple and classic.
"With so many wedding blogs, Pinterest, and photo sharing sites, couples today have an endless supply of inspiration. Unfortunately, this can often translate into expensive ideas they may not have otherwise encountered," says Schwabinger. "Instead of requesting intricate mercury glass vases such as pedestal vases, bowls, and other shapes, which can be quite costly, go for cylinder mercury or glass vases, which have a timeless look and are often more affordable. 2. Use football mums to complement your focal flowers.
"Football mums are an under-appreciated flower," says Schwabinger. "Many people might be turned off when they hear 'mum,' since they believe it equates to a 'cheap' looking flower. However when we show clients photos of soft, pillowy football mums, they always love them! These flowers pair well with peonies, garden roses, and other lush expensive blooms. Swapping out a few pricey flowers for football mums can save money, but most importantly, it is also creates a beautiful look."

3. Choose more organic shapes and styles for your arrangements.
"Many couples love the look of romantic, airy arrangements with somewhat of a wild construction," Schwabinger notes. "Luckily, that can also translate to a more budget friendly centerpiece as well since these arrangements are not so densely packed with blooms." Bonus: they also make for a more interesting look that can fit a variety of wedding aesthetics.
