Before Britt Maren became our April/May 2015 cover girl, she first tackled the role of bride-to-be when she wed her chef husband, Derek Orrell. The Brooklyn-based couple married in Maren's home state of Texas back in October, and she's giving us an inside look at their dreamy nuptials.
Maren donned a Monique Lhuillier gown, seen above, for our cover, which is only fitting as the model turned to the famed designer for her own wedding dress. "I wanted a gown that was easy to dance in, and this Monique Lhuillier delivered," she explained.
Her father walked down the aisle while she carried a beautiful bundle of flowers. "I love a huge, loose bouquet. Mine was filled with white-and-cream roses, calla lilies, hydrangeas, and orchids," she says. As for why her gown looks different heading towards her groom? "There were detachable lace sleeves on my gown. It was like having two different dresses!"
The pair wed in a beautiful venue before friends and family, but chose to save their personal vows to be shared in private. "I was afraid I'd cry, so Derek and I read the vows we'd written in private," she says.
Their gorgeous, garden-inspired wedding reception certainly wowed. Tables were decorated with lush rose-and-hydrangea arrangements. "We held our garden wedding in Horseshoe Bay, one hour from Austin, Texas. I'm a native Texan, and I fell so in love with the area that Derek and I bought a house nearby!" the model explained.
One detail that the bride and groom couldn't overlook? Dessert! "Our cake was epic: layers or carrot and Italian cream cake with cream-cheese frosting."
The pair ended their special night with a fun sparkler exit, where guests waved the flashing fireworks as Britt and Derek departed.
