Can You Ask Your Wedding Venue's Caterer to Tweak Their Signature Menu?

Your wedding is one of the most important parties of your life, and the last thing you and your fiancé need on the big day is a disappointing meal you can barely stomach. After dieting for months to fit into your perfect gown, the meal you feast on your big day should be out of this world, but what happens when you're less than enthused about your reception venue's on-site caterer? Our etiquette experts weigh in.

Assuming you're contractually locked into your reception venue and are pleased with the location's other offerings, it may be time to set up a meeting with the venue's management team to address your concerns. The venue isn't tractable on inviting other catering companies to prepare cuisine, but the on-site caterer may take special requests for the menu.

If you have a favorite family recipe or sort of cuisine you'd love to serve at your wedding, ask if the on-site caterer might prepare it for the big day. Simply because you're required to utilize the site's caterer doesn't obligate you to use their signature menu. If given advanced notice and time to learn the recipe, your caterer may be happy to personalize the menu — as long as the meal's preparation doesn't require extra manpower or time on the day of your wedding.
