Expert Wedding Exercise Tips

If you're a fan of mixing it up, you're going to love the top fitness trends of 2015. "When getting in shape for your wedding it's best to use a variety of workouts so your body does not adapt to a single workout," said FitBrides.com trainer Jason Keigher, CSCS. A survey conducted by the American College of Sports Medicine predicted what will be hot in 2015 with the top spot going to body weight training, likely thanks to the CrossFit phenomenon. Read on to see how you can blast boredom and spice up your wedding-day regimen by incorporating the top trends.

Body Weight Training
Ditch the equipment. The easiest way to tone your body, is to use your body. "I personally find that my clients get results faster from incorporating more body weight exercises into their routine," Keigher said. Add push-ups, planks, lunges, squats and pull-ups to your routine to reap the benefits. Bonus for busy brides: These exercises can be done anywhere.

Strength Training
Target your trouble zones by adding resistance. "Brides can lose all the weight in the world, but if there is no muscle tone they look 'skinny fat' in their dress," Keigher said. He recommends lots of back, shoulder and arm exercises for a strapless dress, for example.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
Here's the lowdown: You burn more fat in less time, you just have to push it real good. "Give all-out, 100 percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by short recovery periods," Keigher said. For starters, try 15 seconds all out effort and 60 seconds recovery; repeat for a max of 30 minutes on any cardio machine or outside.

Personal Training
Phoning in your workout routine? Time to call in the experts. "Having a personal trainer makes brides accountable to someone (else) who cares about how they look on their wedding day," Keigher said. Make sure your trainer has multiple accreditations (ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM), insurance and CPR/AED certificates.

Group Training
In addition to being more affordable than one-on-one, small group training can help you reach your goals. "Working out with a friend or small group can increase motivation," Keigher said.

Truth be told, yoga isn't about major calorie burn. However, it's a great workout for your rest day or for brides who need help with flexibility or relaxation, Keigher said.
