Valentine's Day Wedding Date

Have you ever attended a wedding on Valentine's Day or are you considering having your wedding on Valentine's Day? Before you book February 14 as the big day, answer these five questions:

1. Will you feel cheated down the road when your anniversary isn't as big a deal to people who are busy celebrating Valentine's Day for themselves?
You only get to claim one actual Valentine's Day as your own, even if you get married on it — in the future, your friends will be celebrating their own relationships on that day.

2. Do you mind if you end up exchanging one gift (rather than separate ones for anniversary and Valentine's) instead of getting two spread out over time?

3. Are you planning to have a Valentine's Day theme at your wedding?
You don't have to hang hearts from the ceiling or dress the flower boy up like Cupid to acknowledge the holiday. (Although some people do.) If you're not embracing the theme, that's okay. But find a way to acknowledge the day for your guests, even if it's just heart-shaped cookies as wedding favors.

4. Do you think any of your guests will mind that you're co-opting the holiday for yourselves?
Most friends won't really care — it's one Valentine's Day after all, and there's another next year — but some couples plan special alone trips that weekend so make sure that your must-attends aren't in that category before you lock in the date.

5. Have you started planning well in advance?
The very best vendors are going to be booked way ahead of time for Valentine's Day. Everybody from the music to hair to the pastry chef has to be nailed down and held with a deposit well in advance.
