Is Gwyneth Paltrow thinking of reconciling with husband Chris Martin in the new year? The Goop founder and the Coldplay lead singer have stayed close through their separation and Paltrow has divulged even more about their relationship in the January 2015 issue of Harper's Bazaar U.K.
"Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want," said Paltrow. She continued, "But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we're really close."
Paltrow and Martin live across the street from one another in Los Angeles which is why they have both have been snapped by the paparazzi so many times together. Their closeness in location has also made it possible for them to spend holidays together with their daughter Apple and son Moses who are 10 and 8 years old.
One of the heaviest moments and pressures on their relationship was the support Paltrow needed from Martin after her father, Bruce Paltrow, died in October 2002. Martin was there for her at that time, but in hindsight, she realized how taxing that must have been for him at such a young age. "Men are very young at that age, and I was relying on him very heavily and I really expected him to keep being this grown man and pillar of strength — which he was and is — but it's also quite an unfair set of criteria to give to someone who's just 25 years old," she explained.
She was in a such a low place emotionally and Martin helped her so much throughout that time. "I remember waking up, on one particular night, where I felt like I was having a heart attack and I couldn't breathe," Paltrow continued. "I lay on the floor of my apartment in London and I thought, 'I'm not going to survive this.' And he just picked me up and he was so loving and patient through all my grieving. He's really great in a crisis. He has incredible empathy when it comes to somebody's pain."
To end with her thoughts on Martin, Paltrow said "[Our relationship is an] always a moving, amorphous thing" which means there is a possibility for anything to happen in the future. Guess we'll need to see what 2015 holds for those two.
