The Plus-Size Wedding Blogger Behind Pretty Pear Bride Shares Her Top 3 Engagement Ring Tips

Engagement Rings

Shafonne Myers, owner and CEO of Pretty Pear Bride, the world's only magazine for plus-size brides, knows a thing or two about fashion and weddings. As a certified wedding and event planner and a gal with a serious love of all-things weddings (and a former bride herself), Shafonne understands the unique challenges plus-size brides face.

We have finally made it to 2015 — which means many ladies got engaged over the holidays. And with getting engaged, comes the task of taking care of your engagement ring. Though engagement rings fit everyone differently, there are a few things all brides can do to keep their precious rock pristine.

1. Know Your Size
If your fiancé doesn't know your ring size, you may have to get your ring resized after the actual proposal. So it helps to know your ring size ahead of time. Visit a jewelry store to find out your exact size.

2. Don't Forget Sizing Beads
These are beads that can be added to the interior of the band to make the ring fit tighter if it's too large. They can also keep the ring from spinning upside down. Going a quarter size up for your ring isn't a bad thing because it will make your finger look longer and you can use sizing beads to tighten the fit.

3. Keep Your Ring Clean
This seems like a no brainer, but it stands to be said. Your ring is the most precious piece of jewelry that you will probably wear, so you need to make sure that you keep it clean. When you use soaps, shampoos, and lotions, you run the risk of having the liquids build up on and around your ring. Cleaning your ring is imperative. You can get it professionally cleaned or do a few home remedies, like soaking it in warm water and mild liquid household detergent for up to 30 minutes.
