Now that you and your husband are married (don't you just love saying that?), it's time to send out thank-you cards to all your friends and family who presented you and your new hubby with wedding gifts. But is it mandatory for you to purchase thank-you notes that match your wedding invitations? Our etiquette experts weigh in below.
Sending thank-you notes is absolutely mandatory! Some people forget to, with all the wedding excitement and honeymoon anticipation, but it's something all newly-married couples must do. Your wedding guests took the time (and spent money) to buy you and your new husband a thoughtful gift — the least you could do is say thank you!
Matching your thank-you notes to your wedding invitations is traditional and also looks cleaner than having mismatched ones. Traditionally the thank-you notes are ecru or white folded cards that coordinate with your invitations. Also, stationers often include thank-you cards in bridal packages, so it may be more affordable to choose coordinating styles.
But like most wedding traditions, more and more couples are putting their own spin on the rules. If you want to buy separate thank-you cards that aren't a perfect match, feel free to do so.
As long as the notes are handwritten, personalized, and sincere, your guests will feel appreciated all the same. (Yes, handwrite every single one. It seems like a lot of work, but it's not impossible!)
