Meet our latest real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine, who overcame her own personal struggles after a plane accident. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on how she planned her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren documented every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.
I've heard plenty of brides say it's difficult to get their fiancé involved in wedding planning, but I was pleasantly surprised at how helpful Jason was through the entire process.
Of course, there are wedding things no guy will ever care about (like bridesmaid dress colors or table linens!), but Jason was excited to help make bigger picture decisions — from the music, guest list and rehearsal dinner location to even our invitations.
My biggest tip for other brides is to try and get your groom involved in tasks that you think he'd be interested in — and don't get upset when he doesn't have a major opinion on the smaller details. For Jason and I, it was a no brainer: He loves music. So he was so excited to choose songs for our walk down the aisle, first dance, and reception playlist.
He was also a huge help in planning our honeymoon. We booked a tip to the Rosewood Mayakoba in Mexico. So planning that aspect of the wedding was something we could work on together and enjoy without any stress.
But even when we couldn't go to vendor appointments together, it was important for me to make sure Jason felt like he was part of the process. For example, I went to Dallas for our food and cake tastings and Jason wasn't able to come because of work. So to make sure he was looped in, I texted him a bunch of photos of my favorites.
Another way to get your guy involved is to make it fun! Don't approach your fiancé with a stressful energy. Jason and I were careful not to let planning overwhelm us. And remember to take a break sometimes! We liked planning special date nights that didn't involve the wedding. It's a great opportunity to decompress with your future husband and focus on each other.
