Meet our latest real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine, who overcame her own personal struggles after a plane accident. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on planning her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren is documenting every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.

About three months after my accident, Giuliana Rancic messaged me on Twitter, while she was in the hospital recovering from her double mastectomy. She saw my story on The Today Show, and my job as a fashion reporter reminded Guliana a lot of her start as an entertainment host. She told her husband Bill that she saw so many similarities between the two of us. Guliana told him, "I want to reach out to her and let her know that this accident won't destroy her dreams and crush her passion."

Giuliana and I started talking and quickly became friends. Eventually, she asked me to come to California so we could finally meet in person.

After telling Giuliana how my faith helped me pull through my accident, she asked if I had heard of Jason Kennedy. At first she made it seem like she was setting us up from a work perspective — like he would be a good person to know in the industry since his faith plays a major role in his life, too — but she was clearly trying to play Cupid.

I wouldn't say it was an instant love connection, but there were sparks. After briefly meeting, Jason suggested a place for my mom and I to go hiking the next day since we weren't familiar with L.A. (I grew up in Dallas, Texas.) Jason gave me his number and asked me to text him if we went because he was going to be there with a friend. Needless to say, my mom and I went hiking and met up with Jason. After that, we began talking every day. We started officially dating Easter of 2013.

It's crazy because my accident, which can be perceived as such a negative experience, led me to meeting Jason, which is one of the best things to ever happen to me.

As for our engagement, I knew at some point he was going to propose — I just didn't know when it was going to happen. After all, I'm very hard to surprise (just ask Jason). But when he told me he was going away for a business trip, I thought nothing of it. I went out to dinner with one of my best friends, and then I returned to my apartment to find hundreds of white tulips and candles. I went on my balcony and saw, "Will You Marry Me?" spelled out in candles on the grass. It was the most special night of my life.

Since then, we've been getting ready for our big day with the help of our wedding planner Todd Fiscus. We're returning to my hometown of Dallas to tie the knot later this month. The whole day will be very elegant and family oriented.

I hope that my story brings encouragement to other people. A lot of mothers of children with one arm or similar situations always tell me they hope their daughters will find someone like Jason — and I think it's such a normal fear. So I hope our story helps bring peace of mind to other people.

Stay tuned for more of Lauren's blogs! Next week, she reveals how she manages to balance work, life and wedding planning.
