In 2008, Nicholas Cooper flew from Australia to New York City to visit his cousin for a few weeks. "I've been friends with Nick's cousin, Ryan, for years," says Nicola Curry, a professional ballet dancer who was a member of American Ballet Theatre's corps de ballet at the time. So it wasn't surprising that she met Nick early on in his trip, or that they hit it off. What was surprising was how often they planned group outings that no one else would show up to, and the fact that Nick extended his stay for an extra week to squeeze in a little more time with Nicola. "At the end of his trip, we decided to make a go of it, and after three months of Skype calls, I hopped on a plane for my first trip to Australia to see Nick and meet his family," Nicola says.

More than four years later, while Down Under during a break from ABT performances in China, Nicola joined Nick in Byron Bay for a romantic week full of surprises (spa treatments and home-cooked meals, anyone?). Then he brought her to the Byron Bay lighthouse for a picnic and popped the question. "He picked that spot because it's the eastern-most point of Australia, as close as you can get to America and as he could get to me," Nicola remembers.

Sixteen months later, on July 25th, 2014, Nicola and Nick headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado to say "I do" down the street from her parents' home. They kept it intimate, with only 50 guests. Even the photographer, Parker Young, is a friend of the couple's. "All of the details that went into our day turned out brilliantly. It was incredibly special," Nicola says.

Everything from the invitations to the flowers featured the couple's fuchsia and red color scheme.

The bride wore a strapless fit-and-flare gown by Crisitano Lucci — but it wasn't the first one she tried. "I tried on over 50 dresses before I found this one," Nicola says. She knew she wanted a beaded bodice and a simpler skirt, and the draping, pick-ups and sparkling details fit the bill. She paired it with blue Kate Spade pumps topped with feathers and dangling earrings borrowed from Danielle Snyder and Jodie Snyder Morel, the sisters behind jewelry line Dannijo.

Nick wore a made-to-measure suit in crisp black. "We wanted a formal, black-tie vibe," says the bride.

For her trip down the aisle, Nicola wore a veil created by a friend of hers who used to work in the ABT wardrobe department, and carried a lush bouquet of roses, peonies, orchids, and cockscomb in deep red, fuchsia, and pink. Her sister and brother stood by her side, both in black with accents of bold red.

"We didn't have a signature cocktail, but the rate at which espresso martinis were poured would suggest otherwise!" laughs Nicola. Guests, seated at two long tables with mountain views, dined on prosciutto, tuna carpaccio, striped bass, filet mignon, and spring risotto.

The centerpieces (as well as the couple's cake) featured ombré arrangements of fresh blooms, fading softly from ivory to deep red. A combination of roses, orchids, hydrangeas, and cockscomb gave the room lush texture. The cake, served with a trio of vanilla, mint, and chocolate ice cream, featured layers of red velvet cake with buttermilk frosting.

The dancer and her groom took a spin around the floor to "Everything" by Michael Bublé. "It was so great having a live jazz band perform instead of a recorded version," she says.

After honeymooning in Vail and Aspen, Nicola moved back to Australia with Nick, and will be joining the Australian Ballet in Melbourne. "Our wedding day was so emotional, for many reasons," Nicola says. "We had everyone we loved from all over the world around us to celebrate, but it also felt like a goodbye. I'd danced with American Ballet Theatre for ten years, and saying goodbye to my closest friends made the wedding bittersweet."
