A winter wedding means candlelit dinners, cozy fur wraps, and plenty of romance. Unfortunately for you cold-weather brides, though, it can also mean dry, rough skin. But don't think you have to wait until May for a smooth complexion and soft, buttery skin on your wedding day. We asked dermatologist Jeannette Graf for her best tips on how to keep dry skin at bay this winter.

Prevent dry skin (if you have a month or more):
Your skin is drier in the winter because there's less humidity in the air, says Dr. Graf. The easiest way to bring up humidity levels? A humidifier. Faster, less hot showers can help, too, if you can swing it. Also use a moisturizing body wash, and apply cream to both your face and body as soon as you step out of the shower. We love Philosophy's Hope in a Jar ($29, available at Amazon), which delivers a shot of moisture without causing breakouts. And for your body, try Aveeno Active Naturals 24-Hour Moisturizing Lotion ($9, available at Amazon), which reduces redness and calms dry, itchy skin.

Treat dry skin (if you have a week or more):
The first step is exfoliation. A soothing scrub, like Ole Henriksen Rubb N' Buff Salt Scrub ($38, available at Sephora), sloughs away dead skin and makes lotions and creams more absorbent. Exfoliate in the shower, where the steam opens your pores, then moisturize immediately afterward with a body oil, like L'Occitane Firming and Softening Supple Skin Oil ($42, available at Sephora).

If your face is feeling dry after every time you wash it, switch to a gentler, soap-free cleanser for winter like Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser ($9, available at Amazon). To target dry skin, add a hydrating serum like Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum ($30, available at Target) and a moisture-boosting cream, like Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream ($95, available at Bergdorf Goodman).

Drench dry skin (if you have a week or less):
The night before your wedding, use a hydrating mask for an extra surge of moisture. Dr. Graf loves Avene Soothing Moisture Mask ($21, available at, and apply a super-moisturizing night cream, like Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream ($14, available at Amazon). Go nuts with your body cream the week of your wedding, but ease up on the cocktails — alcohol can dry out your skin. On your wedding day, carry a mini bottle of facial mist in your purse to keep your face hydrated all day long. We love Avene Therman Spring Water ($15 for 3, available at Amazon), and get ready to look extra-glowy in photos!
