This Diet Will Help You Get Perfect Skin for Your Wedding

Who doesn't want perfect skin for their wedding? Moisturizers, scrubs, and treatments will help you get it, of course, but that's not the only way. To really take your skin to the next level, dermatologist Nicholas Perricone says eating the right foods — and avoiding the wrong ones — is key. "Foods that are rapidly converted to sugar, such as bread, pasta, fruit juices, soda, candy, and French fries, cause inflammation because they make your blood sugar quickly rise," he says. "And inflammation is at the root of many diseases including acne, aging, large pores, oily skin, dry skin, and rosacea." The fix? Add the anti-inflammatory, glow-getting foods below into your diet, stat! Perricone says you can see results in as little as three days.

1. High-quality protein
Organic eggs, poultry, fish, shellfish, and tofu release energy gradually. "Always eat protein first," Perricone says. "It will prevent a rise in blood sugar and curb your appetite."

2. Low-glycemic carbohydrates
Go for beans, lentils, old-fashioned oatmeal (not instant!), and fresh fruits and vegetables. Perricone is partial to cantaloupe and blueberries, since they're low in sugar and packed with antioxidants. (He recommends avoiding sugar-loaded watermelon.)

3. Healthy fats
The omega-3 fatty acids found in wild Alaskan salmon, halibut, sardines, herring, anchovies, walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseed, and olive oil dramatically reduce the body's production of inflammatory compounds, not to mention make your complexion supple and radiant.

4. Antioxidant-rich beverages
Loose-leaf green tea is the gold standard. Drink it instead of coffee, which is (sorry guys) very inflammatory. If you're having trouble making the switch, opt for black tea first — it has more caffeine than green.

5. Spices
The anti-inflammatory benefits of ginger, turmeric root, and curry powder are infinite, Perricone says. He recommends incorporating them into every meal. (His favorite way: Add a dash of curry powder or ginger to a chicken salad with olive oil and lemon juice.)

6. Pure spring water
Aim for eight to 10 glasses per day. "Even slight dehydration can cause our skin to lose radiance," he says. "Pure spring water helps the body flush out toxins and stay hydrated, supple, and healthy."
