Although Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila Alves are often found either hand-in-hand or hip-to-hip on the red carpet, the Oscar winner admits he never thought he'd get married.

"I had to get to the point where I saw [getting married] as more than just the thing to do," McConaughey says in GQ's November issue. "I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn't want it to be a destination; the fun is that we're on the adventure together."

Once he decided to take the plunge with Alves in 2012, though, it wasn't without heavy consideration. "We talked about it spiritually. We did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. We talked to our pastor," he continues. "In the end, our understanding was, 'Let's go make a covenant, with you, me, and God.'"

Ultimately, he still needed his wife and mother-of-three to push him down the aisle. "Look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me," he admits to the men's magazine. "It took her going, 'C'mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We'll-Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. Either s--- or get off the pot."

It's clear though, from their many public appearances and his heartfelt 2014 Oscars acceptance speech for the coveted Best Actor award that these two are doing something right. He even says in the interview: "The one thing that's gone into the debit is me being a good friend. Career, marriage, fatherhood — the others are doing good." We're glad to hear it!
