Victoria Voelker and Bill Bristol had known each other for years before they started dating. "But he was friends with my brother," says Vicki, "so we had to wait until my brother was studying abroad and out of the way before we started flirting." They quickly fell for one another, and Bill proposed in New Orleans's City Park (with a bottle of champagne at the ready) in September of 2011. They took their time, spending the next two years planning their dream wedding at Vicki's family home on October 5th, 2013. "My mom hired the landscape architect she always wanted, we had the house painted, and we spent weekends dusting and polishing," says Vicki.

Merideth Reed of Belle Soirée Weddings & Events helped them create the natural, family-focused event, photographed by Arte De Vie.

The bride's fitted lace gown, with beading under the bust and delicate cap sleeves, was created by Yvonne LaFleur. "She used to work in the design house that made my mother's wedding dress," says Vicki.

The bridesmaids wore navy blue chiffon dresses with a halter neckline, and carried smaller versions of Vicki's ranunculus, calla lily, dahlia, and spray rose bouquet.

Wedding Ceremony under a Wooden Arbor Ring Bearer During the Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony took place beneath an arbor in the yard. In another nod to family tradition, Vicki's uncle performed the ceremony, just as he had for Vicki's parents. The ring bearer put on a little show, standing in front of the bride and groom and pretending to read from a Bible the whole time!

Dinner tables were set beneath a tent in the yard. Dark wood tables were topped with boxes filled with hydrangeas, dahlias, tulips, and roses and lit with candles. Other tables featured moss runners and clusters of tall candles surrounded by balls of moss and twigs. A chandelier of branches and hanging votive holders was suspended over the head table.

Sparkler Love Writing

The reception was full of friends, family, love, and traditions. The woman who made Vicki's childhood birthday cakes made the wedding cake, and Vicki's brother danced with a broom at the reception. "It's a Cajun tradition that if the younger sister marries before her older brother, he has to dance with a broom," she explains. And after a full night of dancing at this Southern 'do, it's no surprise they woke up to a yard littered with empty bourbon bottles!
