In December of 2010, model Amy Lemons was at a Christmas party with her childhood best friend when she turned to Amy and said, "There's a great guy my brother went to school with, and he's here. You should meet him." Little did she know, a year and a half later Taylor Sutton would bring Amy to his family's home in Charlottesville, VA, to propose. "He was down on his knees in the mud," she remembers. "It was so special."
The bride had visited Harbour Island in the Bahamas before for photo shoots, and fell in love with the pink sand beaches and breathtaking sunsets. "I knew I wanted to get married there, and convincing Taylor was easy," she laughs. So on the weekend of May 25th, 2013, 60 guests flew down to the Ocean View Club for a celebration in the sand, photographed by KT Merry Photography.
Sandy-hued invitations were decorated with coral and gold accents, hinting at the weekend's beach-chic theme. Amy borrowed her jewels from Andrew Minton, the jeweler who created her engagement ring.
The bride wore a lace cap-sleeved Claire Pettibone gown with a sheer lace back. She carried a loose bouquet of garden roses, tied with flowing ribbons.
Taylor donned a light linen suit for the sunny ceremony.
Amy and her flower girl wore matching floral crowns. The bridesmaids picked their own gold shimmering dresses for the affair.
The ceremony took place beneath an altar of button trees on the beach. Instead of an aisle runner, the walk to the altar was edged with greenery and lanterns and followed a collection of sisal rugs in the sand. Guests were invited to remove their shoes to watch Amy and Taylor say "I do."
After the ceremony, the newlyweds headed out to sea in a beautiful boat festooned with pink peonies. Back ashore, Amy topped her gown with a tuxedo jacket to protect against the ocean breeze.
The party kicked off immediately with miniature margaritas. Their wedding cake was topped with figurines of the couple's dogs, Ralphie and Cash.
The reception was a soft mix of high-and-low, including weathered wooden chairs, gilded chargers, and piles of pink peonies.
Amy let her wedding planner get creative, combining vintage instruments and candlesticks with peonies and pearls. "I wanted something no one had ever seen before," says Amy. As the night wore on, guests headed outside to dance in the sand around a beach bonfire. "It was intimate and simple," says Amy, "exactly what we wanted."
