From a Twilight Engagement Shoot to Super Mario Bros. Invites: 5 Pop Culture-Themed Real Weddings

Wedding Photography, Wedding Style & Decor

From the dress to the venue, weddings are a chance to indulge in a little bit of fantasy. But some pop culture-loving couples take that opportunity to the next level. These pairs incorporated elements from the films, books and video games that they bonded over into their engagement shoots, as well as their wedding day. These photos give a whole new meaning to "personalizing" your big day.

Lindsay and Ferdi's Twilight Engagement Photos (above): No that is not Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Rather it's, Lindsay and Ferdi, who borrowed the look and feel of Stephenie Meyer's fantasy-romance series for their engagement pics (minus the sparkly vampire effects). You can find the full album here.

Esther and Ryan's Super Mario Bros. Invitations and Favors: These invitations, inspired by the old-school Nintendo game, came in the shape of the original game cartridge. Details familiar to anyone who ever played Mario — 8-bit lettering, question mark cubes, gold coins — were incorporated into both the invites and favors. Check out more pics of the meticulous re-creations here.

Rachel and Jake's Water for Elephants-Themed Venue: This couple literally took a page out of their favorite book. Rachel and Jake borrowed setting and theme from the novel Water for Elephants for their wedding at the Arizona State Fair; she even used actual pages from the Sara Gruen story in her paper flower bouquet. Find their colorful photo album here.

Meredith and Josh's Goblet of Fire: Who needs a unity candle? This Harry Potter-loving couple enlisted a pyrotechnics expert friend to light their "Goblet of Fire" at the precise moment they put their names into it. Check out all the Potterverse details they included in their wedding here.

Gemma and Steve's Star Wars Cake and Knife: The Force was strong with these two, who fashioned a knife into a lightsaber to cut their cake — which, naturally, was topped with adorable Leia and Han figures. The intergalactic wedding is documented here.
