Colored Eyeliner

If you've been swiping on the same black eyeliner pencil since high school, it's time to consider the bright side. Colored eyeliner may seem like a risky beauty trend to try on your wedding day, but we swear it's not just for raves. Done right, a subtle pop of color will brighten up your whole face when you say "I do". Plus, it brings out your eye color in a way black or brown never would. We asked Lijha Stewart, director of artistry for Make Up for Ever, for her best tips on walking the colored line for every type of bride.

If you have blue eyes...
Hop on the rose gold train. Warm, metallic shades, like rose gold and copper, call extra attention to your baby blues. For a look that's not too in your face, dip a slanted eyeliner brush in a pot of gel liner and dab it as close to your lash line as possible. Finish with taupe and plenty of mascara and you've got the whole subtle smoky eye thing down pat.
Try: e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner, $7, available at Amazon

If you have green eyes...
Try purple. Just like with blue and gold, choosing colors opposite the shade of your eyes on the color wheel helps them stand out. The good news about purple eyeliners is they can be as bold or as subtle as you want them to be: go all-out with a vivid purple pencil, or choose a deeper plum or burgundy shade to blend in with neutral shadows. Make sure to smudge the liner at your lower lash line, Lijha says, to avoid a Hot Topic situation.

If you have hazel eyes...
Get ready to start seeing green. Teal and green shades complement browns, so whether you've got caramel-colored peepers or super-dark eyes, they'll really pop. For just a hint of color, Lijha says, swipe champagne shadow all over your lids, then blend in with a gray-green pencil at your lash line.

If you have brown eyes...
Go for the gold. Lighter golden shades brings out the flecks of light in your eyes beautifully. Glitter gold pencils are extra-glam, but a clean swipe of gold liquid eyeliner, winged out at the outer corners of your eyes, is perfect for a formal affair.
Try: Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Liner in Strike it Gold, $10, available at Amazon

If you have gray eyes...
Good news, gray ladies: you can pull off pretty much any eyeliner hue. Since gray eyes are so neutral, any shade will stand out. But to make them look extra-silvery, try navy. The color's subtle enough that you can go a little bolder with the application, so a pigmented gel formula won't be too much.
Try: Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Cobalt Ink, $24, available at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics
