5 Statement-Making Wedding Hair Accessories from Real Brides

Brides Live Wedding, Hair & Beauty

The must-have finishing touch to any wedding day look? A gorgeous hair accessory. Whether you go glam with a blinged-out barrette or traditional with a lace cathedral-length veil, an out-of-the-ordinary hair piece is the perfect topper to what's undoubtedly the most special day of your life.

Before you adorn an eye-catching accessory to your luscious locks, it's important to prep your hair to keep the piece in place. According to Brides Live Wedding sponsor Neutrogena Hairstylist Sam Leonardi, the most important way to prep is to have freshly washed hair. "It's easiest to work with hair that is freshly washed, so it can hold any styling products or accessories," says Leonardi. "Adding a product, like Neutrogena Triple Repair Leave-In Treatment to damp hair, can add some texture to your hair when inserting accessories like barrettes. Criss-crossing bobby pins at the base and then inserting an accessory will also help it hold."

Unlike the common myth that dirty hair is easier to style, you'll want your tresses to be squeaky clean for your wedding day and its coordinating hair accessory. "If you're pinning anything in the hair, it will hold much better when clean — oily hair tends to make accessories slip," Leonardi added.

To help inspire your very own wedding-day hairpieces, we gathered five of our favorites from recent real weddings.

This boho Brooklyn bride's enamel gold leaf and flower pins (pictured above) are as unique as her unconventional Grecian-inspired Amanda Wakely gown. We love how these pieces are both romantic enough to constitute as bridal but special enough to look one-of-a-kind.

We love how this bride used her hair accessory — a braided silver headband, worn across her forehead — to tie together her 1920s-inspired theme. Even cuter? She had her bridesmaids join in on the fun and wear flapper-esque headbands with their dresses as well.

This destination bride donned a traditional short veil for her Italian "I do" but added a heirloom-like pearl-embellished clip to make it stand out even more.

For this classic Denver bride, topping off her elegant mermaid gown and swept-back updo with a delicate floral pin — enmeshed in the crux of the sophisticated style — is perfect for her garden ceremony turned ball room reception.

A cathedral-length veil is as traditional as they come, but this stunning lace creation held even more meaning for the bride whose three sisters wore it before her. We love how it adds a timeless touch to her very modern Vera Wang gown.
