Who says you can't meet your future husband at a bar? A new study debunked that very myth, proving that the path to getting married isn't as cookie cutter or traditional as we previously thought.

A study, conducted by coupon brand Voucher Cloud, surveyed 2,193 married American women who were split in two groups: happily and unhappily married. The former was defined by having a marriage that was "generally constructive, functional and satisfying for both parties" and the latter marked by the opposite sentiment. It turned out that 17 percent of the content ladies met their spouses during one-night stands (or what they assumed were going to just be a one-night stand!), while the less satisfied lot had met their husbands at a party or a night out.

Of the survey results, Matthew Wood of Voucher Cloud said, "These findings have debunked many dating myths; mostly that one night stands are a recipe for disaster, when quite clearly, it's often the opposite and can even result in wedding bells. Perhaps the results don't seem romantic on the surface, but clearly for many happy couples, there's far more going on underneath the stereotypes."

Though not true in every case, this reveals that women don't necessarily have to follow the "ten date" or "90-day rule" before hitting the sack with a guy who they consider "marriage material." There's more freedom when it comes to sex, which many modern-day women find liberating.

Naturally, a little over two thousand women is a small pool of all the U.S. has to offer, but these results are definitely interesting. This just goes to show that untraditional roads can lead to happy marriages and that most importantly, each couple paves their own way to contentment.
