If flowers are your number one priority, then definitely plan on a spring wedding. The flower market will be overflowing with gorgeous blossoms that are in bloom, the weather will be mild, venues are more affordable, and florists will be eager to kick off the start of wedding season. Plus, choosing in-season blooms means you'll save money and really maximize your floral budget.

To help you get inspired for your own wedding-day flowers, we'll be highlighting some of our favorite blooms over the next few weeks that are currently in season. First up: lilacs!

Bridesmaid Bouquets: For your attendants, ask your florist to create simple all-lilac bouquets for them to carry down the aisle. Smaller posies (left) would complement a more organic, natural setting; larger, more structured bouquets (right) are great if you want the deep purple hue to really pop.

Mixed-Bloom Centerepieces: If you prefer a more varied look for your reception-table centerpieces, have your florist combine the lilacs with other in-season blooms in a similar color palette.

Wedding Cake: Even your wedding cake can reflect your love for lilac. If your cake designer is talented at making sugar flowers, have him or her create lilac sugar blossoms to decorate the cake tiers — similar to this confection by Maggie Austin Cake.
