Neil Patrick Harris doesn't seem to be mourning the end of How I Met Your Mother. One day after his show's series finale, he's in celebration mode: It's his 10 year anniversary with fiancé David Burtka!
The pair started dating in 2004, two years before he officially came out (on the cover of People, no less) and one year before he brought Burtka to the Emmys for their first public appearance as a couple. Since then, they welcomed twins via a surrogate mother in 2010, and, following the passage of the Marriage Equality Act in New York on June 24, 2011, Harris and Burtka announced their engagement via Twitter.
They later revealed that they'd actually proposed to each other five years earlier, but kept their engagement under wraps until New York legalized same-sex marriage.
But now, they're celebrating their love out in the open — and presumably as they plan their wedding. For the past few days, Harris has been posting Instagrams related to their 10-year anniversary. First, there was an classic skyline shot of New York City and Central Park, with the caption, "A pretty spectacular view to start our (early) 10 year anniversary evening. It's been a pretty spectacular chapter with you, David @Burtka !"
Then, he made everyone jealous with this photo of a hand-written note from Per Se owner Thomas Keller. Harris was obviously aware of the significance of a personal message from the brains behind one of the most expensive, romantic, and highly-rated restaurants in the country. "When @chef_keller has this waiting for you as you arrive at your table, you know it's gonna be a good dinner. #thankful," he wrote.
And to top it off, he posted a solo shot of Burtka today, their official anniversary, with the caption, "Happy 10th Anniversary to the gorgeous man I have the pleasure to love. @DavidBurtka (Twitter), @Burtka (Instagram)."
It's refreshing to see a celebrity couple of a decade keeping romance and love alive! Congratulations — and now, get on that wedding!
