Take that, haters.
On March 10, Honey Maid released a commercial titled "This is Wholesome," featuring heartwarming moments between all types of families — from two dads feeding and kissing their baby to an interracial couple walking down the sidewalk with their kids while sweetly holding hands. What was created as a beautiful expression of love was instantly faced with an onslaught of hateful and homophobic messages: People tweeted that the memorable, and touching montage was "disgusting".
Instead of firing back or issuing a press release, the graham cracker company turned something negative into a positive. They created a beautifully directed video featuring two artists, who roll up the printed out negative messages and use them to compile a three-dimensional sign. The camera then zooms out to show the sign reads "LOVE."
After they create the statement, they then surround the word with all of the positive messages, which, Honey Maid happily points out in the video, far outnumbered the amount of hateful words they received.
We love this video for a number of reasons, but most importantly for how it champions love. Rather than stoop to the critics level, the company took their words and turned them into something beautiful — a lesson we can all learn. Love is love, people.
