Spending time together, supporting each other, and accepting your differences are a few key components to every successful marriage. But according to the founders of insanely-popular dating site OkCupid, who also happen to be Harvard mathematicians, the secret to making your love last can be solved by answering three very simple questions.
Based on an algorithm they developed from the answers successful pairs gave to survey questions on OKCupid, the study shows that couples who answered all of the below inquires the same way were the most compatible:
1. Do you like horror movies?
2. Have you ever traveled around another country alone?
3. Wouldn't it be fun to chuck it all and go live on a sailboat?
We must admit: It's not exactly what we expected. We assumed topics like kids, religion, and money would have been included — or at least something about sex!

Has everything we've been taught to believe wrong? Probably not. Those major lifestyle choices are still very important to figuring out if you're in the right relationship, but we can see how agreeing on horror flicks, solo travel, and life on the high seas imply that key aspects of your personalities will mesh. It shows if you're more of a thrill-seeker or homebody, an adventurist or more cautious, and whether you'd want to camp outdoors or relax in a five-star hotel. Basically, it breaks down whether or not you and your fiancé enjoy doing the same types of activities.
Just for fun, try asking your husband-to-be these three questions at dinner tonight. He'll probably enjoy this conversation more than debating white versus ivory linens (Men just don't get it, do they? Sigh). Who knows, maybe it will inspire your vows for the big day: "I solemnly promise never to watch Nightmare on Elm Street without you, agree that people who travel to the jungle alone deserve what they get, and can't wait to live out our days on a catamaran off the coast of Barbados." After heartfelt words like those, there won't be a dry eye in the place!
