"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," hello wedded bliss! Elton John revealed this weekend that he will marry David Furnish, his partner of 21 years, in May according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

The pair, who are parents to two sons, have been in a British Civil Partnership since 2005. But with same-sex marriage finally legal in England (The Marriage Act was passed in July, but ceremonies officially began on Saturday), the couple will finally have a proper English wedding.

"We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally," he clarifies to the Las Vegas Review Journal. "But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example."

Their eagerness to be among the first same-sex couples to legally wed in England is part of his "duty," he tells the newspaper. In fact, they entered their civil partnership the very day the Civil Partnership Act became legal.

For his part, Furnish made a similar statement to Attitude magazine recently. "Elton and I will marry — as a high-profile couple, we feel it is our duty to do it, to make sure that everyone knows that this is something that many gay men living in this country never dreamed would happen," he wrote.

"I think what we'll do is go to a registry office in England in May," Furnish added. "[We'll] take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses."

We're thrilled that their dream of blazing a trail of equal marriage has finally come true! And while it sounds like they won't have an over-the-top party to mark it, they do have memories of anotherblowout bash to cherish: They celebrated their civil partnership with a $2 million wedding reception with 650 guests.
