Katy Perry and John Mayer Split! So the Engagement We Hoped Would Happen...Won't?

We were already dreaming about the wedding! After sporting a gorgeous, bling-y left-hand bauble that looked suspiciously like an engagement ring (again), and spurring engagement rumors (again), it now appears that the official engagement (and marriage!) we hoped would happen this year...won't. Multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly today that Katy Perry and John Mayer have officially called it quits. (E! News first reported the story.)

Though they recorded a super-romantic duet, "Who You Love," together last year (remember that gorgeous cover art?) and attended a Grammys after-party together last month, it appears that any hope of an all-out rock-and-roll wedding is gone, at least for now, due to busy work schedules.

One source told Us that Perry's upcoming Prismatic world tour became a logistical nightmare for the musical couple, who've been dating on and off since August 2012. "She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting," the source said. "It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done."

Mayer's own recent tour was another contributing factor. "They've had rough patches, but this may be for good," another insider added.

Even though they were never engaged, we can't be the only ones that were secretly hoping for (and planning!) a wedding for the couple. After her opulent first Indian wedding to Russell Brand in 2010, we predicted that she would don a funky, non-traditional wedding dress like this one, which she wore to the NRJ Music Awards in December, to wed Mayer. And given his recent transition to more country-like musical stylings, a rustic affair in Nashville would have been the perfect place for it.

Looks like we'll have to keep dreaming—knowing this couple, this might not be the last we hear from them!
