First comes love, then comes marriage. But before the joy of wedding planning begins comes the biggest, happiest question of all: Will you marry me? Thanks to HowHeAsked, we found some real, romantic, and ridiculously creative proposal stories that will get you inspired, tearing up, or both!

Emily and Josiah's relationship started with a spin. They met during their freshman year of college while swing dancing in a park with mutual friends. They became dancing partners, friends and then boyfriend and girlfriend.

Three years later, summer internships pulled them in two different directions—Emily to Ireland and Josiah to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Despite the long distance, they stayed together—and planned a vacation to Jekyll Island, Georgia, with Josiah's family to reunite and relax before heading back to school. "Jekyll is a really cool place for Josiah because it has been a place of fond memories for him and for his family for at least three generations," Emily says.

A few weeks before the vacation, she got a Facebook message from her Josiah's sister-in-law, photographer Sarah Becker Lillard, asking if they wanted to do a quick photo shoot on the island's beautiful grounds. Naturally, she said yes. Little did she know it would be a photo shoot she'd really appreciate down the road.

On the day of their photo shoot, it rained—but the clouds cleared just in time for their sunset picture session.

Emily and Josiah started off mugging on the porches of the island's historic cottages before moving to a bridge surrounded by trees draped in Spanish moss that still glistened with rain drops.

"Sarah was directing us to different poses, then Josiah says, 'I think I have a pose for us to try,'" Emily says. "He got down on one knee right then and said, 'Emily, I love you more than anything in the world. Will you be my wife?'"

Emily cried, said yes, and the couple shared a kiss—something that they'd been saving for engagement. Talk about a moment to remember! They then finished off the shoot on nearby Driftwood Beach.

Our Takeaways

1. That not-so secret photographer: We've seen a lot of brides-to-be be shocked by a professional photographer lurking around just after they say yes. Luckily for Josiah, he didn't have to plant anyone on the scene. We love how he got his sister-in-law in on his plan by having her reach out to Emily in advance—giving her the chance to plan her outfit and makeup!

2. Don't worry about rain: Bad weather may rain on some men's proposal plans (pun intended), but in this case, the raindrops added to the mood! Emily made a point of remember the glistening Spanish moss, proving that sunshine isn't necessarily a requisite for a perfect proposal.

3. Just have fun: Judging by the rest of their photo shoot, the newly betrothed couple had a blast taking their special pictures—before and after the proposal!
