It's Kate Moss's 40th birthday! And like a true fashion icon, the British beauty has remained a style-setter and muse for designers, photographers, and pop culture fiends throughout the years. In honor of her big day, we're taking a look back at another celebration in her life—her 2011 wedding to rocker Jamie Hince!
We thought Moss's John Galliano wedding dress, with its body-skimming silhouette, illusion sleeves, gold embroidery, and Art Deco-inspired visible, geometric seams, looked absolutely stunning back then.
And three years later? Well, Galliano's gown looks just as gorgeous and on-trend. From metallic flecks found on bridal designers' recent runways (this one Carolina Herrera gown has stuck in our minds ever since it was shown) to a prevalence of illusion necklines, backs, and sleeves, Moss clearly set a style standard for future brides-to-be. (No surprise there!)

If you want to mimic Moss' chic, romantic wedding day style, look for a dress made from an airy fabric that creates a ton of movement. Sheer details like illusion sleeves or neckline help, too (for a more modern take, you might like the sheer panels found in Angel Sanchez's Spring 2014 collection). A deep V-neck is a must, as are delicate metallic embellishments.
