It feels like we just watched NeNe Leakes and her husband Gregg get remarried on I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding. Only a few short months after the Leakes's lavish second wedding celebration, another Real Housewife of Atlanta is prepping to walk down aisle.
Kandi Burruss has been engaged to TV producer Todd Tucker since January, and this season of the Bravo reality show will feature her very dramatic wedding-planning process.
Kandi, a singer and Grammy Award winner (she wrote TLC's No Scrubs!), has fought her mother, fondly known on the show as Mama Joyce, every step of the way since Todd proposed. This will be Kandi's first wedding, and Mama Joyce has made sure to express her concern with Todd at every opportunity available.
This season, she already accused her daughter's future husband of cheating on Kandi with her assistant and best friend, and expressed displeasure that there were no photos of her hung in their new home. She even criticized the gorgeous, unique engagement ring that Kandi and Todd picked out together.
During last week's episode, Kandi even organized a dinner to facilitate some sort of peace. Her attempt to offer an olive branch was to no avail, Mama Joyce instead used the meeting to call her man an opportunist, and insinuated that he was mooching off of her successful daughter. Hilariously, she also paraphrased Marvin Gaye's famous song to let him know just how closely she was watching him.
"Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no ocean deep enough, to keep me off your ass, baby."
But on last night's episode, Mama Joyce took her objections to a new level. Kandi, after excitedly perusing bridal magazines, went to a bridal salon with a packed entourage: Two friends, Carmon (who is also her assistant) and Kwame, her mom, and her two aunts, Nora and Bertha. Mama Joyce arrived late and immediately threw shade at the wedding dress Kandi had on, saying, "She's not going to wear it anyway," followed by a declaration that she wished her daughter would marry someone else. As Carmon tried to defend her friend, Mama Joyce's shoe came off and all hell broke loose (see the tragic events unfold, above).
Poor Kandi! It was her first time ever trying on a wedding dress and she had to witness some of her loved ones almost get into a physical altercation.
Immediately after last night's explosive episode aired Kandi appeared on Watch What Happens Live and tearfully defended her mother, in spite of her vitriol. Kandi really seems torn between two loves of her life. Viewers, who are spreading mean comments throughout the Twittersphere, aren't making it any easier.
We hope Kandi can reconcile the conflict between her fiancé and her mother. We know she'd make a beautiful bride! Tell us: What would you do if you were caught between a feuding fiancé and mom?
