Seth Meyers Reveals Why His Wedding Was "Almost A Fairytale"

Celebrity

Seth Meyers' Labor Day weekend wedding to lawyer Alexi Ashe sounded like it was the perfect seaside Martha's Vineyard celebration—high profile guests (including Andy Samberg, Olivia Munn, Jason Sudeikis, Allison Williams, Kristen Wiig, Lorne Michaels, Amy Poehler, and Bill Hader, to name a few), a gorgeous bride in a white lace wedding dress, and laughter and love to spare.

But during a Late Show with David Letterman appearance, the Saturday Night Live head writer revealed that a bad oyster nearly derailed the entire event.

"My wife, the MVP of the wedding, as most wives are, planned the whole thing, every detail. The day before the wedding, [she] eats an oyster, [gets] food poisoning, [it] knocks her out. Meyers jokingly took responsibility for her ailment, saying he suggested an "oyster guy" for the rehearsal dinner hors d'oeuvres instead of paying for nice seafood.

Meyers woke up the next morning to find out his fiancée was on the way to the emergency room, where nurses told the violently ill Ashe that she couldn't get married that day. The bride-to-be didn't take the news lying down (no pun intended): "She props herself on her elbow and was like, 'I am getting married today,'" Meyers said.

Thanks to a doctor friend, some wedding-day adrenaline, and her gorgeous wedding hair and makeup, Ashe looked every bit the glowing bride, as evidenced by photos displayed on the show.

We can't imagine going from hospital bed to wedding ceremony aisle in a matter of hours, but she managed to turn a wedding-day emergency into a fairy tale.
