NearlyNewlywed.com, the brainchild of former fashion publicist Jacqueline Courtney, launched as an almost too-good-to-be-true resale site for fashion- and budget-conscious brides-to-be. This month, NearlyNewlywed launches a section of new wedding dresses—leading with a strong lineup of exclusive gowns by Sarah Seven, Paolo Sebastian, Collette Dinnigan, and Winifred Bean. Plus, NearlyNewlywed is also the only place to find fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra's capsule collection of bridal pieces based on ready-to-wear styles. We caught up with founder Jacqueline Courtney during bridal market to hear more about NearlyNewlywed's exciting news.

Brides: You're a veteran of the fashion PR industry. What drew you to bridal?

Jacqueline Courtney: When I worked in PR, my favorite moments were working with stylists, seeing the dresses on the red carpet and runway, styled up and in action. When I got engaged and started planning my own wedding, there was a natural connection between my work dressing celebrities and bridal, which is a red carpet moment for every engaged girl! I was motivated to start NearlyNewlywed to give brides better access to designers and the ability to save money. Whether it's buying a discounted gown, or selling her full-priced dream dress after her big day, our goal is to give brides a unique e-commerce experience.

Brides: What inspired you to expand into new gowns?

JC: Brides told me again and again about gowns they loved (like Paolo Sebastian's Swan Lake gown, which is featured on more than 100,000 Pinterest boards) that proved too difficult to purchase. I saw this as an opportunity to bring these international designers to brides online directly. It soon became a natural extension for NearlyNewlywed.

Brides: Tell me about this process. What's has been the most exciting?

JC:The most exciting aspect has been the support we have received from brides across the country and the world, and the willingness of such talented designers to support an approach to bridal that isn't as traditional as some.

Brides: Tell me about the NearlyNewlywed bride.

NL: The NearlyNewlywed bride! I love her and she inspires me every day. She is modern, savvy and unique. She wants the perfect dress, the perfect day, the perfect photos, a dress that is a good value, the whole nine yards, which I respect and identify with and work every day to give her.

Brides: You ship nationwide—how do you handle fittings for brides who can't make it to your NYC showroom?

JC: We offer an-at home fitting program, which we liken to the days when a designer or shop owner would come to your home for personal shopping, bring you the best that they have, and you would try them on in the comfort of your own home with your friends, and decide what to order. With NearlyNewlywed, a bride can try up to three gowns at any time, new or used, and we will ship them to you for free to try on at home.

Brides: Tell me about your vision for the e-commerce experience for the woman shopping for such an important gown?

JC:Our vision was to create an online store that mirrored a local boutique experience; beautiful, familiar, personal & helpful at every turn. Our hope is to create something that is special for a bride, where she can discover, be inspired and ultimately find a gown that is just right for her, no matter where she lives.
