Picking out a wedding dress is one thing, but planning a Halloween costume with your significant other, whether it be your boyfriend, partner, fiancé or husband? That's a whole other ball game. We thought up five creative, culturally-relevant, downright punny costumes ideas for you and your boo (see what we did there?).

For the Pop-Culture Vulture Couple: Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke

This one's a no-brainer. Though they're not dating (and never will, as Thicke is happily married to Paula Patton), they're the most talked-about duo since Barack and Michelle. Embrace the ultimate pop culture moment of 2013 by dressing up as twerking Miley and referee Robin. We can guarantee people will be saying, "We can't stop...talking about your costumes!"

You'll need:
Miley Cyrus
1 nude-colored bathing suit
1 pair of platform sneakers
2 mini hair buns
1 giant foam finger
Those less comfortable baring all can also slip on a teddy bear costume. Additionally, please stick out your tongue at all times.

Robin Thicke
1 black-and-white striped suit
1 pair of aviator sunglasses
1 microphone
Falsetto not included.

For the Political Couple: Wendy Davis and Ted Cruz

If you and your significant other are policy wonks, chances are you savor a good argument, as well. Embrace the government's most recent war of words by dressing up as two of Texas's most prominent politicians, filibuster-loving Ted Cruz and Wendy Davis. With these costumes, you'll have something to talk about all night!

You'll need:
Texas State Senator Wendy Davis
1 pair of bright red Mizuno sneakers (she rose to prominence during her 12 1/2-hour filibuster in which she delayed anti-abortion legislation, all while wearing the running shoes)
1 striped, pale blue trench coat
1 floral dress
2 strands of pearls
1 pair of diamond (or similar) stud earrings
Suggested hair pairing: Wavy blonde locks with subtle side bangs.

Senator Ted Cruz
1 maple leaf T-shirt (he was born in Calgary)
1 copy of Green Eggs and Ham (he read it out loud during his epic filibuster)
1 black suit, for good measure
Best when paired with dark brown hair and a deep side part.

For the TV-Obsessed Couple: Ygritte and Jon Snow from Game of Thrones

There are a ton of shows worth channeling on Halloween—Scandal, New Girl, Sons of Anarchy—but something about Game of Thrones really screams "costume!" to us. Jon Snow and Ygritte are one of the show's hottest couples, and usually wear toasty-warm outfits that you and your guy will be happy to sport if temperatures drop on Halloween. Winter is coming—might as well dress the part!

You'll need:
1 hooded fur jacket or coat
1 brown dress (a brown shirt and leggings will also work)
1 red wig!
Add a toy sword to spar with your mate, for added effect.

Jon Snow
1 long, black, fur-lined cape
1 black tunic
1 black kilt (we won't suggest a skirt)
1 pair of heavy black boots
1 toy sword tucked into a belt
Jon is known for his shaggy mane and light facial hair.

For the History-Loving Couple: Cleopatra and Julius Caesar

Out of all of history's couples, we love the tempestuous dynamic between the Egyptian queen and her Roman lover the most. The never-married power couple lived lavishly, riding on royal barges down the Nile River and visiting each others' royal estates constantly throughout their 14-year relationship. You don't need to attempt the Liz Taylor-Richard Burton movie look to pull off this theme.

You'll need:
1 wig with black, blunt bangs (if you don't already have them!)
1 gold headdress
1 slinky white dress
1 elaborate gold necklace
Extra points for intricate eye makeup.

Julius Caesar
1 red tunic
1 pair of gladiator sandals
1 olive-leaf crown
Chest armor is optional.

For the Artsy Couple: Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera

Kahlo and Rivera embodied calor Mexican romance during their two stormy marriages. Ups and downs aside, they created timeless artwork and an enduring image of a creative union. Replicate this famous painting to really capture the everlasting charm of their relationship. Ole!

You'll need:
Frida Kahlo
1 eyeliner unibrow
1 braided headband
1 bright orange shawl
1 long, green dress
You can also try a fancy, wedding-worthy braid for this costume.

Diego Rivera
1 plain black suit
1 pale blue dress shirt
1 broad-brimmed retrato hat
1 palette
1 set of paint brushes
Ask your Halloween party host if they'd like a Rivera-esque wall mural, as well.
