Can A Shy Best Man Skip Giving the Wedding Toast?

Etiquette

Newsflash to all best men: the job is about more than raging at the bachelor party and standing next to the groom at the wedding ceremony. The wedding toast is a big part of the responsibility, too! If the best man is too shy to do that honor, our wedding etiquette experts are here to help in our daily post.

The best man is super-shy and is really dreading giving the toast. Can he just skip it?

The best man has to give a toast—it's one of the main parts of his job. Thankfully, it doesn't need to be a State of the Union address; in fact, he should keep it short and sweet—two minutes, tops. To increase his comfort level, tell him he can read his speech from a card, and suggest that he rehearse it a few times in front of friends before the big event.
