On June 14, 2013, Lauren and Michael brought their 120 wedding guests back to the place where Michael had intended to propose a year and a half ago—the lush English countryside. The groom-to-be couldn't wait, however, and popped the question before ever leaving for the airport on the exact same day he picked up Lauren's engagement ring. "He tied the ring around my dog's collar," explains the bride.
Plans for a romantic garden party wedding at the bride's family home in Sunningdale were more difficult to derail. "We wanted to give our wedding guests a true British experience," says the bride, who drew inspiration for her formal affair from The Royal Wedding.
The bride, a fashion stylist, was admittedly "extra picky" about her wedding dress. After visiting eight bridal ateliers, Lauren found her dream wedding gown at Reem Acra. "I knew it was the one before I even tried it on," she says of the strapless ball gown. As a wedding present, a dear friend of the bride, Rodrigo Otazu, designed a custom headpiece which the bride describes as "absolute perfection."
The bride's eye for style and love of fashion allowed her to custom design many of the wedding details including her mother's gold sequin gown.
Bridesmaids wore custom designs as well. Lauren worked with a friend to create Carrie Bradshaw-inspired looks for her bridal party. Silk tanks were paired with tutus. "I had the fabric for the bridesmaid dresses matched to the fabrics in my dress," says the bride. To differentiate the Maid of Honor, Lauren designed a floor-length tutu or sorts that also included a peplum.
The couple's wedding reception was filled with thoughtful details and unforgettable moments. "My father's speech brought everyone to tears," says the bride. During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed typical English fare of fish and chips and Beef Wellington. For the main course, a leek and parmesan risotto was served alongside lamb and sea bass entrees. For dessert, everyone was treated to English toffee pudding.
Centerpieces of white hydrangea and peonies were designed in an assortment of different heights. "I love the look of a single flower in each vase," says the bride.
The couple selected "My Girl" for their first-dance song, and the bride and father-of-the bride choreographed a salsa routine for their dance. "We started off with a James Taylor song to trick our guests," says the bride.
The couple's chosen wedding date, June 14th, also marked Father's Day in the States, so the they planned a special surprise for all the fathers in attendance. "We had the staff bring out glasses of ale from a local brewery," Lauren says. "It was an absolute perfect day."
