As if Fourth of July weekend wasn't reason enough to celebrate in nautical red, white, and blue style, there was also a host of celebrity wedding news to keep the hot days fresh with excitement! We kept an eye on weddings that featured stylish long-sleeved gowns (hello, Elisha Cuthbert) as well as the growing popularity of the double wedding ceremony—a trend Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose plan to follow. Read on for all of the weekend's celebrity wedding news.
Kerry Washington Marries Nnamdi Asomugha
We'd like to tell you the "who knew they were even engaged?!" news first: the Scandal star married her NFL player boyfriend in a super-secret ceremony in Hailey, Idaho, on June 24—but the news only leaked this weekend! Their marriage license listed her parents as witnesses. Though the intimate vows probably didn't warrant a formal wedding dress, we can only imagine what kind of couture creation red carpet chameleon Washington would wear for a traditional wedding.
Elisha Cuthbert Weds Dion Phaneuf
Happy Endings and 24 actress Elisha Cuthbert is getting her happy ending after saying I do to her Toronto Maple Leafs player fiancée Dion Phaneuf on July 6. The newlyweds exchanged vows at St. James Catholic Church in Summerfield, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Cuthbert stunned in a on-trend Kate Middleton-esque long-sleeved wedding dress with lace sleeves, a scoop neck and ethereal tulle skirt (see the dress here). Her royal, romantic look was completed by her loose, wavy hairstyle and lush bouquet of white and pink flowers. The couple of five years, who got engaged last September, celebrated at a reception for nearly 300 guests at Phaneuf's home after the ceremony.
Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa
Four months after welcoming baby Sebastian, the proud parents officially became husband and wife in a private ceremony on July 8, but the real party will happen in a few months, according to a tweet from Khalifa.
Me and Amber got married today. Weddings this fall. Thought I'd let yall know 😊— Wiz Khalifa (@wizkhalifa) July 8, 2013
The couple has been together since 2011 and got engaged in March 2012. During an interview with radio station Hot 97 in November 2012, the rapper explained that they wanted to wait to have a big celebration after Rose gave birth. He also joked that they were going to postpone the wedding so Rose could imbibe on her big day. "She wants to get drunk," he said. Given the extravagant delayed receptions we've seen recently (New York Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire's wedding immediately comes to mind), we can't wait to see what this over-the-top pair concocts for their celebration!
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger
Every detail that we've heard about the Canadian couple's wedding since they tied the knot on July 1—which happens to be Canada Day and the day they began dating TK years earlier—has seemed utterly fitting for the musical couple. New photos show that during their three-day celebration at the Chateau de la Napoule medieval castle near Cannes, Lavigne walked down the aisle in a black tulle Monique Lhuillier gown, wearing a tiara and a black-trimmed veil and carrying a matching bouquet of black roses—and wearing lots of her signature black eyeliner (see a photo of her wedding look here). 110 guests attended the Gothic-themed wedding, where Kroeger matched his bride in an all-black ensemble, which he accessorized with a beaded bracelet.
