As we do each season, Brides asked designers showing Fall 2013 collections to grant us a sketched sneak peek at the gowns soon to hit New York runways. (Afterward, it's fun to compare the sketches to the real-life gowns they become.) Here, Val Stefani explains the inspiration behind his nature-infused collection:
Describe your collection in a word:
What inspired this season's theme?
This season was inspired by the juxtaposition of modern elements within nature as seen in Bruce Munro's "The Glowing Garden." The collection is based on the combination of unexpected elements to create dramatic statements—these contrasting textures and embellishments bring new life to classic silhouettes. Drawing on natural elements for shapes, lace patterns, and arrangements resulted in a blurring of the lines between nature and fashion.
What is unique about this sketch in particular?
The design shown here showcases a streamlined, modern silhouette with ornately textured shapes and patterns inspired in nature.
