The New York City-based trailblazer and bon vivant describes her dream wedding.
Vows: They'd be a group effort: We'd ask our guests what they would wish for us and then incorporate their answers into our vows. Location: Oceanside in Arcachon—the Hamptons of Bordeaux, France. Invite: Handwritten notes with watercolor flourishes. Officiant: A Shakespearean actor—someone really theatrical, like Patrick Stewart. Guest-list cuttoff: 50-max.
Hair: I'd wear my hair very big, in a perfectly polished beehive, as originally worn by the great Brigitte Bardot. Beauty secret: I'd definitely use a little Temptu spray-on makeup. Dress: Lanvin (see above!)
Venue: A French chateau. First dance: "If Not for You," by Bob Dylan. Must-shoot list: Candid reactions captured by very, very quiet and small photographers and a very, very teeny, quiet videographer. Reception favors: Something fun and kitschy, like car air fresheners with our mug shots and wedding date on each. Music: A country band with a Tim McGraw sound-alike, and DJ Samantha Ronson. Flowers: A bit wild, lush, loose + Burgundy.
Films: Scenes from Alice in Wonderland and La Grande Bouffe, a 1973 French-Italian romp about a gluttonous bacchanal. Glossy: Dwell magazine. Interiors guru: Nate Berkus. Fashion genius: Alber Elbaz. Restaurant: El Bulli, the world's most famous, in Spain. Party vibe: Woodstock. Style icon: Janis Joplin.
ON THE MENU
Foodie hodgepodge: Mini stations, passed tasting plates with wine pairings, modernist cuisine, and high-tech elixirs. I'd also re-create my restaurant faves: polenta with wild mushrooms and mini pain perdu. Signature cocktail: Vintage krug.
Necessary extravagance: Good wines. Rain plan: A round, glass-walled tent from Starr. Idea to steal: [Famous foodie] Gail Simmons gave out homemade pickles as favors. I loved that. Etiquette book: Weddings for Dummies. I wrote it, but I could never possibly remember all the info we put in it, so I'm constantly using it. Classy move: I'd plan special meals for vegans and vegetarian guests. Lingerie for the night of: Kiss Me Deadly. The other parties: I can't imagine my friends sitting through a shower. And my life is already a bachelorette party. Dancing shoes: Brian Atwood heels—"if I could manage to walk in them for more than two minutes!"
