For Maggie, 29, Nantucket evokes a slideshow of happy memories. "It's a magical place," she says of the Massachusetts island where she spent countless childhood summers and, more recently, long weekends with her boyfriend, Sean, 32. During their seven-year courtship, the Boston-based couple became known for their laidback gatherings and clambakes. So after Sean popped the question, Maggie says, she started planning a celebration in her "favorite spot on the planet." An interior designer (Sean works in banking), she approached the wedding as a decorating project, injecting texture and personal touches to achieve her "vintage nautical" vision. Whether she was searching for the perfect watery blue fabric for the tablecloths or making necklaces for her 14 bridesmaids, the avid crafter stitched together a wedding picture of a hundred details.

On June 12, 175 guests saw that creative crusade come together in a spectacular seaside affair at the Sankaty Head Golf Club, where they feasted on sea scallops and halibut and danced to an electrifying rock band. Break-dancers, fist-pumpers, and lip-synchers blew the lid off the clubhouse, then continued the late-night party at a nearby bar. "Its porch has a cool beach-shack vibe," says Maggie, "and it felt like we were just hanging with friends at one of our clambakes." A fitting end to a New England fete.

A cherished Nantucket icon, the Santaky Head Lighthouse, made several appearances in the wedding photos.

"I couldn't imagine getting married without all of my closest friends and loved ones right up there with me," says Maggie of her 14 (whew!) bridesmaids. They wore different dresses from Priscilla of Boston, Vineyard, and Melissa Sweet, in graduated shades of blue.

Guests gathered at the entrance of the First Congregational Church: "My dad's an architect, and I knew he'd appreciate this venue - it's that quintessential New England-style church you dream of getting married in," says the bride.

An insignia designed by Maggie decorated the front of the wedding programs, which were tied with silk ribbons. Maggie was inspired by old whalers' journals when choosing a typeface and designing the whimsical illustration that personalized the wedding invitation.

Dainty pink floral wreaths made of white "Majolica" roses, blush pink heather florets. and white ribbon added a sweet touch to the flower girl's look. The couple were greeted by a shower of petals as they exited the church. A Mini Cooper, on loan from the photographer's assistant, whisked the couple from the church in the center of town to the reception.

A fog rolled in as Maggie and Sean strolled on a boardwalk: "The rain thankfully held off until very late, but I didn't mind the fog - it felt cozy and romantic," the bride says.

The cocktail hour was held on the patio of the clubhouse, which has views of the Atlantic. Old whaler's text of a type often seen around Nantucket inspired the font the calligrapher used for the menus.

Custom origami stars, fans, and waves dressed up the four-tiered wedding cake's exterior, while vanilla and chocolate layers that echoed the groom's bow tie made for a charming cake-cutting surprise.
