Mexico's Riviera Maya, a gorgeous stretch of coastline just south of Cancun, has loads of fantastic properties for honeymooners. I'm just back from one of the newest: the chic, Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla. It's a total couples retreat, very sleek and design-focused. The resort has 394, super-mod suites (the property still feels quite intimate, though) with cool features like double rain showers and Jacuzzis on the terrace. Sixty of the ground-floor suites are actually swim-out, so you can take a dip in the pool from your balcony. Rooms from $460.

I made it my mission to try as many of the restaurants as possible (seriously, you've got everything from teppankayi to molecular gastronomy to traditional Mexican) and all delivered on great food and attentive service. There's always room service, of course. My a.m. chilaquiles showed up in 20 minutes, lickety-split, piping hot.

Though massages aren't included, it's worth it to splurge on the 20,000 square-foot, minimalist Yhi Spa, which has gorgeous treatment rooms with private gardens. And if you want to venture off property, definitely visit Xcaret, a fun theme park centered around the Mayan culture with colorful shows—one even recreates the famous Mayan ball game. It's also partly a mini-zoo and aquarium, where you can spot everything from flamingos to ginormous sea turtles to jaguars and pumas. But the real highlight is swimming in a cenote, or sinkhole—you basically put on a snorkel mask and float from cave to cave. After your swim, you end up by a gorgeous beach area, great for lazing the rest of the afternoon away.

For more fun honeymoon resorts and activities in the Riviera Maya—and it's boho-chic town of Tulum, big with the fashion crowd and celebrities—check out our itinerary from the June issue. It's a week's worth of adventures, Brides tested and approved.
