Kristen and Scott were first introduced in 1993 by Kristen's brother Corey, who was Scott's best friend in college; however, the couple didn't begin dating until eight years later. Both New Jersey natives, the couple, who now live in Chicago, wanted a reception venue that would showcase the city to their out-of-town guests. They knew they'd found the place after visiting Terzo Piano, a restaurant located in the Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago.

For the wedding, Kristen wore a silk faille gown ("It was elegant, with a modern twist," she says) and a necklace by Oscar de la Renta, both from Ultimate Bride. The bridal bouquet featured lush white hydrangeas and orchids.

At the reception, Kristen removed the dress's detachable peplum and wore her necklace as a belt. Bridesmaids wore satin Vera Wang dresses.

The wedding ceremony was held at the couple's parish, St. Michael in Old Town. "It's one of the most beautiful churches in the city," says Kristen. Deacon Barnes, a family friend, officiated at the noontime ceremony, which included a performance of "Ave Maria." Photographs of the bride's and groom's grandparents were displayed on the altar to honor their memory.

At the reception at Terzo Piano, cocktail hour featured music by guitarist Jacob Sweet. The guest-book table featured candles, succulents, and the couple's initials displayed in zinc letters from Anthropologie. A coffee-table book on the history of the museum's Modern Wing served as the guest book.

Dinner tables were decorated with long boxes filled with wheatgrass, manzanita, roses, and orchids. Tables also featured sculptural ghostwood branches accented with spheres of moss, mums, and carnations. Kristen and Scott had celebrated Valentine's Day at Terzo Piano earlier that year, and had enjoyed crab-encrusted striped bass and grilled filet mignon; the restaurant happily incorporated those entrees into their wedding menu.

The newlyweds chose David Gray's "This Year's Love," spun by a DJ from Style Matters, for their first dance, after which their guests joined them on the dance floor. Before the reception came to an end, the newlyweds stepped out onto the Modern Wing's bridge to soak in the evening together. "That quiet moment with Scott was just magical," Kristen recalls.
