A Look Inspired by YSL Muse
Loulou de la Falaise

Most second-time brides opt for wedding ensembles that reflect their wiser, more subtly derived sensibilities toward marriage. But if there's anything Loulou de la Falaise wasn't, it was subtle. A favorite with Yves Saint Laurent and his band of high-fashion gypsies in 1970s Paris, the well-born Loulou first married Irish Knight of Glin Desmond FitzGerald in 1966 wearing an antique lace gown.

Four years later the marriage was over, and in other seven Loulou once again donned white to marry Thadée Klossowski de Rola (son of the artist Balthus)—only this time the look was Loulou head-to-toe. Dressed as a sixteenth-century courtly maharaja, YSL's muse sported harem pants, streams of pearls, white stockings, silver shoes, and a turban festooned with feathers and a brooch. And that was only Loulou's first look of the night.

Brides who share Loulou's taste for flair (she later created an accessories empire based on her personal collection) can glean a fashion lesson from the It-Girl's festive wedding look, though with a slightly less... historical spin.

It seems only fitting to begin with this tuxedo jumpsuit from Theia's Fall 2012 collection, as it was Mr. Saint Laurent who revolutionized womenswear by introducing Le Smoking tuxedo suit in 1966. That and a full-length line creates a more elegant proportion than, say, harem pants. Accessories are key for a true Loulou look, so pile on as many strands of pearls as your neck can stand, and mix up metals between your earrings, bracelets, and rings to complete the eclectic, worldly vibe. With turbans resurfacing in recent seasons, you'll have no trouble finding an appropriate head wrap to suit your ensemble—although feathers à la Loulou are strictly optional.

Tuxedo suit, Theia; Pearl necklace, $39.95, ModCloth; Eugenia Kim headband, $80, net-a-porter; Kate Spade ring, $98, Nordstrom; Jessica Simpson earrings, $38, Macy's; Cuff, $65, jcpenney; Satin and suede evening sandal, $225, BCBG
