Actress Kristen Bell and comedian Dax Shepard got in engaged in late 2009, but more than two years later the couple still have not made any wedding plans. Why? "The reason we're not rushing to get married is because I don't feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that's denied to my best friends," Bell said in an interview with The Advocate.
One of those best friends is undoubtedly Heroes costar Zachary Quinto, who came out last year to a flood of support in Hollywood. ("He has known exactly who he is since the day I met him," Bell said.) The actress and her fiancé aren't the first celebrities to abstain from getting married in protest of marriage discrimination. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were among the set of stars holding out until Pitt revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that his children are putting on the pressure to marry their mother. "We made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to do it till everyone can," he said. "But I don't think we'll be able to hold out."
Maybe it was a statement like that which prompted Bell to add, "Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We're just standing up for what we believe in. Period."
