Katy and Russell may be throwing in the matrimonial towel, but a slew of other celebrities signed up for a matching set over the holiday, ushering in the new year with eight engagements and a wedding. The sole nuptials of the lot belonged to ice skating star Johnny Weir, who married Victor Voronov in a courthouse ceremony in New York on Dec. 30. The two plan to throw a party in July to celebrate with a larger group of friends and family, but until then "no more livin' in sin" Weir tweeted. After five years together, Matthew McConaughey proposed to model Camila Alves on Christmas Day, later tweeting the good news: "Just asked Camila to marry me, #MerryChristmas." The couple have two children together—Levi, 3, and Vida, 23 months.
Aretha Franklin and William "Willie" Wilkerson announced plans to wed this summer in Miami Beach aboard a private yacht. Franklin's rep added that the singer "is considering Donna Karan, Valentino and Vera Wang to design her dress."
Rock god Steven Tyler proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Erin Brady, presenting her with a Loree Rodkin 5-carat diamond on a pavé band. Rodkin told E! News, "Having made Steven's jewelry for so many of the past years it was an honor to be part of his future—with all my love to Steven and Erin."
Hopefully, the third time's the charm for country singer Wynonna Judd, who became engaged to fellow musician Cactus Moser (someone has the name Cactus?) on Christmas Eve. The two started dating in 2009, following Judd's divorce with her second husband, D.R. Roach.
Also remarrying will be basketball legend Michael Jordan, who asked girlfriend-of-three-years Yvette Prieto to be his wife during the Christmas weekend. Jordan has three children with ex-wife Juanita Vanoy—Jeffrey, 23, Marcus, 21, and Jasmine, 19.
But Jordan isn't the only high-profile athlete making wedding news. Miami Heat star LeBron James proposed to girlfriend Savannah Brinson at a New Year's Eve dinner in South Beach, where Gabrielle Union and Queen Latifah were also guests.
Bridesmaids leading man Chris O'Dowd proposed to British TV personality Dawn Porter the day after Christmas while the two were vacationing on an island in the English Channel. And then—because apparently this is what you do when you're a proposing celeb—the actor tweeted: "I'm so bored of all this happiness and sex. I'm getting married."
Taking advantage of his own vacation opportunity, singer John Legend proposed to model Chrissy Teigen during their holiday stay in the Maldives. Naturally, Legend celebrated the news on Twitter.
